Cooking with Kids Poster for Chico on $10 a Day
Skill Area: Community Nutrition and Education
Assignment Title: Cooking with Kids!
What I learned: In this fun assignment I learned about marketing and advertisement design for the purpose of community nutrition education. It also reinforced my dedication to the idea that letting kids begin cooking at an early age is an important part of developing healthy eating habits and creating better family relationships by allowing parents to spend time with their children.
Reflection: I enjoyed creating a fun, colorful poster that I believe would appeal to kids, and at the same time, share important information with adults about involving kids in the kitchen making healthy, fun treats. I loved trying out kid-friendly recipes and choosing one that I thought would have universal appeal. This assignment made be consider teaching parent/children cooking classes to get families cooking together.
Relevance: I wanted to show both adults and kids that healthy is eating can be fun and delicious. One way to do that is to reach out to kids and help them see that fruits, vegetables and whole grains can be both yummy, fun to make, and fun to eat. Getting both kids and adults to become more open to preparing and eating healthier foods was the goal not only of this project, but also for Dietetics professionals everywhere.
