Theory Based Nutrition Education Intervention Group Presentation
Skill Area: Community Nutrition and Education
Assignment Title: Body Image
What I learned: The first step in beginning this project was conducting a “needs assessment” survey, and while we discovered that some students felt they had a positive body image, many of the students we surveyed, regardless of weight, appearance, etc. were not physically satisfied with themselves for various reasons. In our project we focused on the various causes of negative body image, and strategies the audience could use to promote acceptance of a more positive body image within themselves.
Reflection: I think that our presentation was successful in opening the audience’s minds to the impact that body image has on our culture. I personally hope that the people in the audience all learned something about themselves and were able to utilize some of the strategies we talked about to empower themselves and become more positive about their own body image.
Relevance: Understanding the issue of body image in our culture will help me in creating effective dietary plans for people. By conducting a needs assessment, and using the information to create and intervention strategy, I can help meet the patient where they are and better promote positive and healthy ways of viewing oneself. Using this strategy, I can help the patients develop healthy eating habits and a more positive view of themselves.
